What a privilege it is to serve children and their families in the Barrie area. By partnering with parents and volunteers we are able to provide a fun and spiritually engaging environment. Together we share a passion to introduce young children to Jesus and help them to grow in their faith. We @ Hiway offer a diverse range of programs and classes (Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings) as well as some very special events throughout the year. See details below.
Sunday morning ministry for children is provided down the stairs in the lower level of the church with the same safety protocol and standards that we use in the Nursery. Children are given an ID tag and are only released to the holder of the matching ID tag.
When you come through the main door entrance of the church look for this banner to your right:
You will be welcomed by warm and friendly volunteers who provide care to your baby so that you can enjoy the Sunday morning church service knowing that your child is safe and well cared for.
When you check your baby into the Nursery we will provide you with an I.D. tag. A matching number is securely clipped to your child’s clothing and your child is only released to the holder of the matching tag.
The Nursery is located to the left of the front foyer – up two steps and to the right of the coffee area. The Nursery is open at 9:45 am on Sunday (15 minutes before the worship service begins).
Children in this age group are so impressionable. We want to fill their Sunday morning with safe and fun learning experiences. Children are guided through playtime, Bible story time and crafts designed to help them remember what they have learned. The message that we want to communicate to them is that God made them special, God loves them and God is always there for them.
Kindergarten kids are energetic, curious and full of wonder. Activities and crafts appeal to their questioning minds and help them to understand what the Bible teaches. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the family unit and the part they play in the family. Play and Interaction with other children helps them to develop social skills and a sense of right and wrong, seeing that they are part of a larger community.
Our first priority is to have children develop a love and trust for God that enables them to grow in their faith so that they can make wise choices. We want to help them develop a Biblical worldview so that they understand and can answer basic questions like: Who am I? Who is God? Who is Jesus? What does it mean to be a Christian?
We want kids to know that God is our creator, that He created our world and that He wants us to belong to His family. By believing that God’s Son, Jesus, died for their sins and rose again from the dead they can become a child of God. Life then becomes an exciting journey as we live to please Him and make Him known to others around us. Classes cover all the basics:
- Learning to trust God
- Learning that the Bible is God’s Word and shows us how to live
- Learning to treat others as you would want to be treated
- Learning about prayer – talking to God and listening
Wednesday will quickly become your child’s favourite night of the week!
Midweek ministry is designed to reach kids for Jesus where they are and to walk alongside them in their journey of life and faith. Fun, scripture rich activities capture their attention by using themes from science and action heroes. As they grow in their faith and become disciples of Jesus, they will learn to have a major impact on the world around them.

All volunteers are screened and interviewed. They must provide references and they must provide a Police Record Check to ensure that your children receive care and teaching in a safe and secure environment. It is mandatory for all volunteers to attend Hiway’s “Protecting Our Resources” training.
Volunteers are placed where they are gifted to serve and receive quarterly training to ensure continued excellence in their service to your family.
